Trojans vs. Rome at Home on Friday!

Friday night was a nail biter as we faced a tough South Paulding Football team. Our Trojan however remained focused and determined through the end of the game to a 28-21 victory! Congratulations to Coach Joey King and our football team on a your determination and perseverance! Strong 4th quarter finishes are exhausting, but that is how you win championships!

Our Trojan Band performance received a thunderous applause from both sides of the stands! The crowd especially enjoyed our 3rd number when the band put the instruments down for a choreography feature. We remain tremendously proud of our band as they got home late on Friday only to return for another full day of band practice on Saturday.

Thank you to the parents who volunteered on Saturday to continue building and reinforcing props, ordering and preparing food for dinner, keeping our students hydrated in the heat, and continually encouraging our students. Your efforts directly affect the morale and the students’ work ethic. Your support is being reflected by the students and we are so thankful for you!

Thank you to our students who gave it their all this weekend. We successfully completed the show and had multiple successful full run-throughs before the end of the evening! Now we can spend time embellishing the show as we prepare for half-time and competitions! Our first contest is on October 1 at Central’s Superbowl of Sound.

Marching Band Staff Spotlight

Tyler Boyle, front ensemble

Tyler Boyle is a Carrollton native and graduate of the University of West Georgia, where he earned bachelor’s degrees in Music Education and Music Composition. Mr. Boyle will be involved in many aspects of the Carrollton band programs this year, serving as a percussion instructor for Carrollton High School and Carrollton Junior High School, as well as assistant band director at Carrollton Upper Elementary School. Mr. Boyle also works as an audio engineer and spends his summers as a member of the audio staff at Music City Drum Corps. During his free time, he enjoys writing music and spending time with his fiancée, Emma.

We so fortunate that Tyler has joined our staff. His audio engineering expertise has been extremely helpful with the electronic aspect of our marching show and the kids are learning from his astute percussion pedagogy. Thank you for your love and dedication! You continue to help our program excel!

Concessions Ordering

Students will have the opportunity to order concessions for Friday’s game on Thursday. There will be a table in the lobby of the band room from 5:00pm – 5:50pm for students to visit and pre-order concessions. This is important for home games because it allows our students to receive their order more quickly during 3rd quarter so that they can enjoy a longer break. We can accept cash or debit cards.

Please keep in mind that students are only allowed to drink clear liquids while in uniform. The students have been made aware of this, but they may have not relayed this information to you? Please help us remind the students – Sprite, water, and other clear liquids are ok, but red, blue, purple, etc. Powerades will stain the uniform. By following the rules we will keep our uniforms clean and avoid expensive cleaning costs or even more expensive replacement costs. Although these costs would be charged to the student and their parents, it would not be a happy day for anyone who is delivering or receiving the news of these charges caused by not following the rules. Thank you for your assistance in reminding our students of our policy and helping us to keep our students looking their best!

Give for Gold to help support student enrichment at Carrollton City Schools

The Carrollton City Schools Education Foundation kicked off its Golden Giving campaign this month to provide field trip opportunities for students at Carrollton City Schools. For just $10 per month (the cost of a fast food lunch), you could help send a child on a field trip they otherwise could not afford. The foundation has supported students attending the Washington, DC sixth-grade trip, Broadway immersion experiences for CHS students in New York City, and a grade-level experience for CES students to visit Truist Park to name a few. More than 350 teachers support this cause and Give for Gold each month. Will you match a teacher’s donation and Give for Gold?

Help Us Honor Our Veterans

We would like to honor family members and friends of the Carrollton Trojan Band with the creation of a slide show to be presented at our Veteran’s Day Concert on November 14, 2022. The concert is FREE and open to the public. We would be honored by your presence if you are able to attend. Please help us to spread the word!

Sponsorship Drive • Turn in Packets

Did you miss the sponsorship drive? It started at band camp and ran through last Friday. If you have contacted businesses but are awaiting decisions, please email Candie Hicks, our booster club treasurer to let her know. At this point the sponsorship drive has concluded, but we are still in need of corporate sponsors, especially for our large events that we host each year – Legacy of Champions, Trojan Band 5K, and the Golf Tournament. Do not contact a business without coordinating with Candie so that we do not bombard our community. It is important that we work together to raise funds that will support our children in the Trojan Band program. If you have outstanding sponsorship forms that have not been distributed, please bring them back to the band room and give them to Ms. Dothard.

T-Shirt Design Contest

We are wanting to add items to the Band Shoppe for our students and thought it would be fun to allow students to submit a design for a shirt. The designs will be voted on and the winning submission will receive a free shirt! To submit a design please email your submission to our booster president, Robert Moore.

Amazon • 2 Ways to Help • Snacks Needed

THANK YOU so much to our parents and friends who have ordered items from our Amazon Wishlist! The snacks for the away games, Gadsden and South Paulding, were all provided from generous donations from our Amazon Wishlist. Our next away game is versus Villa Rica next week. If you are able and willing to assist by purchasing items from the wishlist it helps both monetarily and assist us with our time since it removes the need for someone to go out and purchase the items. If you see items on our list that you can find less expensive elsewhere and would rather shop for them, we have a booster storage room where we can store donated snacks. Your generosity makes a difference and we are very appreciative. THANK YOU!!!!

District Honor Band

GMEA (Georgia Music Educators Association) sponsors a District and All-State band each year. The audition requirements were posted on Friday. This is an extremely important opportunity, especially for students desiring to audition for a scholarship. Taking advantage of audition opportunities can help them learn to handle nerves and ultimately prepare a stronger college audition than if they wait until their senior year. It costs $25 to sign-up to audition for All-State and $5 to sign-up to audition for District Honor Band.

District Honor Band/1st Round of All-State Auditions are on December 10, 2022 at East Paulding High School. Download the audition material below:

*The score sheets include Middle School and High School sheets. Be sure to look at the correct grade level and instrument because they are all different.

The first audition in December serves as a qualifying round for the second round of All-State auditions in addition to placement auditions for the district honor band. District Honor Band is hosted by Ringgold High School in Ringgold, GA from February 9 through February 11. Because we have such a large number of students make district each year we get a bus for the weekend and divide the cost of hotels amongst the students participating.

The score sheet lists the score needed to qualify for the second round for each instrument. The final audition is hosted by Union Grove High School in McDonough, GA on Saturday, January 7, 2023. Students who earn a spot in the All-State Band travel with their families to participate in Athens, GA at the Classic Center from March 2 through March 4. Both events are considered school sponsored activities and are excused absences from school.

Health Class • Are you done yet?

9th Grade students enrolled in marching band or new band members (guard included) who haven’t taken Health and PE yet should complete this online health class to receive PE and Health Credit for participation in marching band. All of the information is below and can be accessed using the “Health in Band” link at the top of this page. All of the health coursework is due by October, but I highly recommend you complete it ASAP. Parents, please double check with your child that they have completed this course. School starts tomorrow. Students still have time, but need to prioritize finishing this before homework begins piling up.
