Trojans triumph 69-7 in season debut!

Friday night marked the start of our football season as we traveled to Gadsden City High School where we won 69-7. Congratulations to Coach Joey King and our football team on a great football game. Trojans looked sharp on both sides of the football as a touchdowns were scored by both our offense and defense! The atmosphere was electric as our band provided intense energy for the crowd along with our cheerleaders. During half-time our performance was met with a roaring applause by Gadsden’s home crowd, who provided many positive comments about our halftime show. One fan shared with Mr. Carr after the game, “Great performance at halftime. Your band sounded great! Their sound was clean and clear at all dynamic levels. I was impressed by how loud and by how soft that they played. Good luck on your season!” It was an outstanding first performance at a football game – the drill is starting to clean up and the performance quality continues to get better daily. BRAVO! We look forward to cheering our team on again this Friday as we travel to South Paulding to play the Spartans.

Marching Band Staff Spotlight

Sophia Padilla, colorguard

“My name is Sophia and I am one of the colorguard technicians here. I graduated here from Carrollton High School, where my color guard career started, and getting to come back to the program that shaped me and created so many life long friends and memories is a blessing. As always I am excited to watch these kids grow and expand themselves within this program. As an added plus watching my brother, Tristan a trombone in the band, grow really makes this years experience a little sweeter. A little about me: I am continuing my education at UWG to become an elementary school teacher. In less than a year I will be living my dream and becoming a school teacher. I am still continuing to spin in my free time. I have spun with Reverie Winterguard for the past 4 years and cannot get enough of it. I cannot wait for the Carrollton Trojan Band take this show to the next level!

Go Trojans!”

We so fortunate to have Sophia on our staff! In addition to assisting with the high school colorguard team, she has been instrumental in helping us form our Junior High team. Sophia, thank you for the love and dedication that you pour into our students everyday!

Sponsorship Drive • Turn in Packets

Did you miss the sponsorship drive? It started at band camp and ran through last Friday. If you have contacted businesses but are awaiting decisions, please email Candie Hicks, our booster club treasurer to let her know. At this point the sponsorship drive has concluded, but we are still in need of corporate sponsors, especially for our large events that we host each year – Legacy of Champions, Trojan Band 5K, and the Golf Tournament. Do not contact a business without coordinating with Candie so that we do not bombard our community. It is important that we work together to raise funds that will support our children in the Trojan Band program. If you have outstanding sponsorship forms that have not been distributed, please bring them back to the band room and give them to Ms. Dothard.

T-Shirt Design Contest

We are wanting to add items to the Band Shoppe for our students and thought it would be fun to allow students to submit a design for a shirt. The designs will be voted on and the winning submission will receive a free shirt! To submit a design please email your submission to our booster president, Robert Moore.

District Honor Band

GMEA (Georgia Music Educators Association) sponsors a District and All-State band each year. The audition requirements were posted on Friday. This is an extremely important opportunity, especially for students desiring to audition for a scholarship. Taking advantage of audition opportunities can help them learn to handle nerves and ultimately prepare a stronger college audition than if they wait until their senior year. It costs $25 to sign-up to audition for All-State and $5 to sign-up to audition for District Honor Band.

District Honor Band/1st Round of All-State Auditions are on December 10, 2022 at East Paulding High School. Download the audition material below:

*The score sheets include Middle School and High School sheets. Be sure to look at the correct grade level and instrument because they are all different.

The first audition in December serves as a qualifying round for the second round of All-State auditions in addition to placement auditions for the district honor band. District Honor Band is hosted by Ringgold High School in Ringgold, GA from February 9 through February 11. Because we have such a large number of students make district each year we get a bus for the weekend and divide the cost of hotels amongst the students participating.

The score sheet lists the score needed to qualify for the second round for each instrument. The final audition is hosted by Union Grove High School in McDonough, GA on Saturday, January 7, 2023. Students who earn a spot in the All-State Band travel with their families to participate in Athens, GA at the Classic Center from March 2 through March 4. Both events are considered school sponsored activities and are excused absences from school.

Health Class • Are you done yet?

9th Grade students enrolled in marching band or new band members (guard included) who haven’t taken Health and PE yet should complete this online health class to receive PE and Health Credit for participation in marching band. All of the information is below and can be accessed using the “Health in Band” link at the top of this page. All of the health coursework is due by October, but I highly recommend you complete it ASAP. Parents, please double check with your child that they have completed this course. School starts tomorrow. Students still have time, but need to prioritize finishing this before homework begins piling up.
