Band BBQ on Thursday!

This past week was packed full of experiences for our students. Last Saturday we had our Awards and After Party, Tuesday was the CCS Foundation’s Scholarship Breakfast, and we traveled to Cartersville High Shcool for Jazz Performance Evaluations, we honored our studnets academics on Thursday, Seniors had their senior letters and breakfast on Friday morning, we performed a peprally at CES on Friday morning, and had Solo & Ensemble and Prom on Saturday! There are still some great events upcoming as we send our seniors out with style. Thursday is our annual Band BBQ! Thank you so much to everyone for selling BBQ and Raffle Tickets. If someone forgot to get their tickets, they can still purchase BBQ or raffle tickets on Thursday at the event.

The event will take place in the visitors’ concession stand of Grisham Stadium. We will begin serving BBQ at 11:00AM, and will have walk-up and drive-thru service available. Our band performances begin at 6:00PM and will face the visitors’ side stands in the stadium.

Jazz Performance Evaluations | Outstanding Job!!!

Our 3 Jazz Bands performed at GMEA District VII Jazz Performance Evaluations on Tuesday, April 21. All 3 bands did an outstanding job! The CB Jazz was directed by student teacher Stephanie Hanlin, performed Lean on Me and Blue Berry Jam and earned Excellents on stage. The Symphonic Jazz Orchestra led by Mr. Nelson performed Perdido, My Funny Valentine and the Theme from the Greatest American Hero and earned Superiors on stage. The 1st Block Jazz Band led by Dr. Carr performed Soul Kitchen, Corner Pocket, and Tiger of San Pedro, and also earned Superiors on stage. The judges appreciated that in each ensemble, our students were asked to improvise, we used varied percussion instruments for the rhythm section, and performed with characteristic styles. We are excited to showcase our jazz bands this Thursday at our annual Band BBQ. We will begin with our CB Jazz at 6:00PM.

Solo and Ensemble | WOW!

Despite being the same day as Prom, our students still increased their participation in the annual GMEA District VII Solo and Ensemble! This event provides an opportunity for our students to perform solos or as small ensembles for feedback and adjudication. The students chose their music and prepared it on their own outside of class. We are so proud of the initiative and leadership shown by these students and so impressed with their level of preparation! Congratulations on an outstanding Solo and Ensemble! Thank you for being a strong example for your peers and leading our program upward.
