The Carrollton Upper Elementary School Band is directed by Mr. David Trumble. Instruction begins in the 4th grade, where students continue their exploration of music fundamentals and begin learning about band instruments. The 4th-grade band class is a 9-week curriculum that helps students decide if they’d like to continue in the 5th-grade band class. Students are fitted for instruments at the end of their 4th grade band class experience.
In the 5th Grade band class, students rent instruments and begin their band journey. 5th-graders have the option of beginning on flute, clarinet, trumpet, or trombone. The classes are separated into brass and woodwind classes, which allows beginning instruction to be more homogeneous. The 5th-grade band performs 2 concerts a year, with one at the end of the first semester and one just before testing begins in the 2nd semester.
