LGPE (Band Festival)

Congratulations to our band students on a very successful LGPE this year! Sight-reading was optional this year, but all three ensembles elected to participate.  Concert Band and Symphonic Band each received excellent ratings during sight-reading and the Wind Ensemble received a superior rating.  Additionally, all three ensembles received SUPERIOR ratings from all 3 judges for their prepared stage performances.  This is especially exciting considering that each ensemble performed more difficult music this year than in the past.

The students and directors all demonstrated exceptional growth throughout the process. This performance was a culmination of months of extraordinary effort and I am thankful for the students’ willingness to put in the extra work needed to master the smallest details required in artful music making.  The students performed with passion, took risks, and created artful music during their performances.  We received many compliments from the judges as well as audience members.  Congratulations on your fantastic performances!!!!

Of special note: numerous teachers and administrators made it out to support our bands all week. Because of the concerts were spread out from Tuesday through Friday (including our JrHS concerts) it was difficult for our administration or teachers to attend all of the concerts, but we had numerous teachers and administrators at each concert and I hope that they know that we appreciate their support. Additionally, Coach King was in attendance with many of his football players for the Tuesday evening concert. Thank you to all of our parents, family members, friends, teachers, and classmates who attended the concerts. Having the opportunity to share the music that we have worked so hard to prepare with loved ones makes the performances that much more memorable! Thank you for giving us that opportunity.

Trojan Band 5K and Fun Run

Our Annual 5K was this past Saturday.  We had great participation that created a very successful event! Thank you to our students who greeted participants and performed/cheered along the 5K route.  Your participation in the event has made it unique and enhanced the experience for our guests! Thank you for sharing your talents with our community, it is a special gift worth giving!

Also, thank you to the parents who spent months planning the event along with Sole Roots Racing.  We had many parents who volunteered their time on Saturday working registration, the Band Shoppe, selling CFA biscuits, handing out bottles of water and bananas, taking photos, cheering on runners, and the logistics to make it all happen.  THANK YOU so much for your dedication to providing for our band students. Your efforts make a difference and are truly appreciated!

Special SHOUTOUT to Ms. Ashley Sutton, CHS Teacher, for inviting Hector to our event and to Hector for attending! It was such a nice treat for our participants to meet and take photos with Hector.  Your presence made the event better and we are thankful for your support!

Band Prom

Because the Band BBQ is on May 5 this year, our Band Prom Theme is CINCO DE MAYO! All high school band (this always includes colorguard) students are invited to attend the band prom from 7:00PM – 11:00PM.  This event has traditionally been called Band Prom, but it is more of a band party. There will be a DJ in the main band room for students to dance and have a great time, video games set up in the back room for students to hang out while gaming, and food in the lobby to keep the students energized and hydrated while dancing the night away.

Parents, we need your help chaperoning to help us keep eyes and ears in multiple places throughout the evening.  Parents will assist with monitoring the gaming area, dance floor, assist with replenishing refreshments if needed, and walking the perimeter.

Band students may invite friends to participate with them.  Band students participate for free, but students who are not in the CHS Trojan Band can pay $5.00 to participate.

Each section decorates a table at Band Prom and the winning section will receive a chick-fil-a biscuit breakfast one day later in the school year.  The table decorations should reflect the CINCO DE MAYO theme.  Table decorations will be judged by Ms. Dothard, Mr. Carr, and Mr. Nelson.

Band BBQ

Thank you so much for the raffle prizes! We have received a few very generous donations, but still have room for more.  If you have any leads on raffle prizes or are willing to donate something to be raffled please contact Robert or Cheryl Moore.

The sale kicks off on Monday, March 28 and runs through April 29.  The turn in night on April 29th allows us to better estimate how much BBQ to ask Billy Bob’s to help us prepare.  You can continue selling tickets past this date, but we need you to turn in what you have sold to help us with that estimation.

We are very thankful for the generosity of our community who supports our band BBQ each year.  This is a long standing tradition that started many years ago as Band Burger Day. There have been many businesses in the past who have been willing to purchase the BBQ for their entire shifts as an employee appreciation meal in support of our efforts.  We are willing to deliver large orders to businesses. More information on how to arrange a delivery will be provided later, but if you need information sooner you can reach out to Robert or Cheryl and they can assist you.

Northwest Georgia Percussion Ensemble Festival

The Carrollton High School Percussion Studio will participate in a percussion festival on April 30th at Dalton High School. Similar to LGPE, percussion ensembles from various schools will perform for a panel of judges and receive feedback on their performance. This is a great opportunity to help create and mold our students into well-rounded percussionists, as is the intended purpose of this unique ensemble.

In preparation for this festival, we will need to use time outside of regular class hours to ensure that our repertoire represents our band program well and that it exceeds the standard. Rehearsals are scheduled on Thursday from 3:45PM – 5:00PM.

Please refer to the calendar, as days/times are altered in the month of April. More information will be provided in the weeks to come.

Senior Spotlight – Need your help

We would like to continue our Senior Spotlights tradition that was started last year. Seniors or senior parents, click here to fill out this form to allow us to customize your senior spotlight. Filling out the form allows us to celebrate our senior’s future plans and share photos of them from throughout their school careers.

Graduation

Just a reminder that Graduation this year is on May 20, 2022 although our last day of school is not until May 25. This is an important evening for all of our band students because not only do we get to celebrate with our graduating seniors, but we perform as part of the ceremony. This is a required performance for all wind and percussion students. An itinerary will be posted as we get closer to graduation, but I wanted to make sure that you understood that this is an evening commitment for our band students.
