Great Opportunities Coming Up Next Month at UWG

UWG-For many of us who grew up in the West Georgia area I think we take for granted how blessed we are to have a thriving university like the University of West Georgia right in our back yard. When it comes to enriching our band students’ development, the university provides us with outstanding resources and opportunities without large investments of travel, time, and finances. There are two such opportunities coming up in February that Dr. Josh Byrd, Director of Bands at UWG wanted us to share with you.

First is the Destination: Music event, which takes place on February 15 and is open to high school juniors and seniors interested in checking out a day in the life of a music student.  Complete details and registration information can be found by here: Destination Music 2016 Complete Info

Also taking place the same day will be UWG’s Scholarship Day, where students will have the opportunity to interview for Presidential Scholarships.  For students interested in this event as well, please register using the following Scholarship Day link (note: students must be accepted to the University by February 1 in order to be considered for the Presidential Awards from this event).

Next up is UWG’s 12th Annual Saxophone Symposium, which takes place on February 20. This is a great opportunity for students to work on anything and everything related to the saxophone with Dr. John Bleuel as well as participate in a reed and sound clinic with UWG faculty member and Vandoren artist Bob Culbreth. Complete details and registration information can be found by here: 2016 UWG Saxophone Symposium Information and 2016 UWG Saxophone Symposium Registration Form.

For details about auditioning/applying for the Music Program at the University of West Georgia, please see here: 2016-2017 Music Application.

We hope that you will consider these wonderful opportunities while supporting a wonderful community partner. Please direct further questions to Dr. Josh Byrd at the Department of Music at UWG, jbyrd@westga.edu or 678-839-6267.

GO WEST!  GO WOLVES!!!
