Trojan Night and the Road to Rome

The 2026-2027 school year had a very successful start last week! We had a terrific week with everyone back, although the weather has been a bit unpredictable! Thankfully, we still got a full rehearsal in on Thursday evening and began setting drill for movement 3. We are excited to debut the 1st 2 movements of Guiding Light at Trojan Night this upcoming Thursday evening and again at Rome on Friday!

Trojan Night

Students will wear their Show Shirts, Band Shorts, and tennis shoes for our annual Trojan Night performance. We will begin dinner at 6:00 PM, asking students to eat first to allow them time to get ready for their performances. After eating, students will report to the band room at 6:40 PM to get ready to march into the CHS Amp. We will march into the stadium following that performance for the halftime presentation, where we will perform a standstill of our show before marching and playing what we have learned so far. The evening will conclude with our candlelight ceremony. Senior parents are invited to participate in this ceremony. After receiving your candle, we ask seniors and their parents to line up across the front sideline of the band practice field, junior band students to line up 8 steps behind them, sophomore band students about 8 steps behind the juniors, and freshman band students to line up about 8 steps behind them. Band students are dismissed at the conclusion of the candlelight ceremony.

1st Away Game of the Season

We travel to Rome on Friday for our first away game. Students will need their black band shirts for Friday. If they haven’t purchased one yet, Ms. Dothard has them for sale in the band room for $10 each. We will wear them as part of our uniform on Friday, so we can wear short sleeves with the vest since it will still be very hot. It’s always important, but this week it’s extra important to hydrate.

Checking Out From Away Games

Sometimes parents ask to take their child home from an away game rather than having them ride the bus back to the school. Students are not permitted to leave the game early, but we do have a procedure that allows them to ride home with their parents. Please submit your CHS Band Check-Out from Away Trips form to Ms. Dothard by Thursday afternoon if you are checking out from the game.

Before departing with your parent/guardian, a director or lead chaperone must physically say goodbye to the student with his/her legal guardian. The student is still responsible for putting up his/her uniform and equipment. Instruments may go home with you, but uniforms are kept in the band room. If you are checking out, please bring your hanger so that you can hang your uniform up properly at the end of the game and can ask a friend to make sure it makes it back to the band room safely.

SENIOR NIGHT Approaching Quickly

Senior Night Activities:

  • Parents decorate on Thursday evening during practice 8-9 PM (Ms. Dothard and Deyonca Dozier are sending out info on this)
  • Senior Breakfast on Friday morning 7:30 AM – 8:15 AM | Asking parents to bring in food
  • Senior Night Recognition – details below
  • March back into the band room, and the band has a stands tune party

The following information was posted in the Marching Band classroom for our Seniors. I hope that they have shared it with you by now. Just in case, here is the information.

Senior night is our 1st home game. Please see the attached information from Ms. Hibbard.

  • All seniors participating in fall sports/activities will be recognized before the first home football game on Friday, August 28. Each senior will be escorted by their parents/guardians. Due to the volume of participants, siblings, boyfriends/girlfriends, etc., may not participate in the ceremony. If neither of a senior’s parents/guardians are available to participate, you may request an alternate escort.
  • Submit the Senior Night Form ASAP (by end of day August 21) — Do it TODAY!
  • Click the link to submit your info, or type the (Case Sensitive) URL into your web browser: https://trojan.gold/SeniorNight – this info is available online at http://hibbardchs.weebly.com/senior-night.html

Other Information

  • Attire: We wear our band uniforms; your family should wear Dressy Casual. Black & gold and Trojan spirit wear are encouraged.
  • Formal photographs are available for purchase after the event. Proofs and pricing will be available online at www.BPIphotography.net or https://bpiphotography.smugmug.com/Carrollton-High-School
  • During the ceremony, all seniors and their escorts will be recognized and then line the track from end zone to end zone. Advise friends and family to take photos when you are in your final track position so you don’t have to stop early.
  • Seniors and escorts will be permitted into the stands as a group upon the conclusion of the ceremony. Do not leave any belongings in the cafeteria as we cannot guarantee your entrance into the game.

Band specific info – we will cut the AMP performance short to make sure we are there for your ceremony. You will join us in the Star Spangled Banner arcs to participate in pre-game immediately following the ceremony.

September 4 Football – Band Performing at the Carrollton Amp

When this date was mentioned at the parent meeting in April, I announced that the plan was for the band to host and perform locally to support our football team since we are not traveling to Louisiana, but the details had not been finalized.

Our band will perform as part of the game broadcast at the Carrollton Amp on the Square. We will travel to the Amp on buses, perform for our community, and return to CHS after the game when we are finished performing. Although we will not be able to perform halftime at the Amp, we will be able to perform a standstill of our show in addition to showcasing our stand tunes in a more intimate setting. It will surely be an exciting evening for our students and our community!

Help Us Find Community Sponsors

Our band families are some of our best ambassadors in the community! If you know a business, organization, or individual who may be interested in supporting the Carrollton Trojan Band, please consider sharing our Band Sponsorship Flyer with them. We have physical copies in the band room if you’d like a few to share with potential partners. Sponsorships help provide meaningful opportunities and experiences for our students while allowing our community partners to support and be connected with the Trojan Band.

THANK YOU!

If you see Reese Roenigk, please take a moment to thank him in person. This summer, Reese volunteered to write our Eyes on Excellence portion of the blog. I sent a message to our leadership team asking if anyone would be interested, and Reese responded almost immediately. From there, he took ownership of it and consistently provided content each week throughout the DCI season.

I really enjoyed seeing this develop over the summer. Reese gave our students a way to keep up with DCI, learn more about the activity, and engage with some of the very best marching ensembles in the world. At the same time, it allowed him to practice his writing and share something he enjoys with the rest of the band.

I’m proud of Reese for stepping up and, more importantly, for following through week after week. He took a simple idea and made it his own, and our entire program benefited from it.
