Last night we had a wonderful evening enjoying the DCI Championships in the band room. Thank you so much to the volunteers who brought food, helped serve, chaperoned, and enjoyed the evening with us. The performances were amazing! Tomorrow officially starts the 2026-2027 school year. We are excited to welcome everyone back to school. Students will report to their advisement classes first thing in the morning. The day starts at 8:25 AM and ends at 3:15 PM. All band students need their instruments, as we will play in class every day.

Trojan Night • Rescheduled
Students will wear their Show Shirts, Band Shorts, and tennis shoes for our annual Trojan Night performance. We will begin dinner at 6:00 PM, asking students to eat first to allow them time to get ready for their performances. After eating, students will report to the band room at 6:40 PM to get ready to march into the CHS Amp. We will march into the stadium following that performance for the halftime presentation, where we will perform a standstill of our show before marching and playing what we have learned so far. The evening will conclude with our candlelight ceremony. Senior parents are invited to participate in this ceremony. After receiving your candle, we ask seniors and their parents to line up across the front sideline of the band practice field, junior band students to line up 8 steps behind them, sophomore band students about 8 steps behind the juniors, and freshman band students to line up about 8 steps behind them. Band students are dismissed at the conclusion of the candlelight ceremony.
September 4 Football – Band Performing at the Carrollton Amp
When this date was mentioned at the parent meeting in April, I announced that the plan was for the band to host and perform locally to support our football team since we are not traveling to Louisiana, but the details had not been finalized.
Our band will perform as part of the game broadcast at the Carrollton Amp on the Square. We will travel to the Amp on buses, perform for our community, and return to CHS after the game when we are finished performing. Although we will not be able to perform halftime at the Amp, we will be able to perform a standstill of our show in addition to showcasing our stand tunes in a more intimate setting. It will surely be an exciting evening for our students and our community!

The Bluecoats have officially won the DCI Grand Championships! Last night, the top 12 World Class Corps showcased absolute magnificence for the world to see. The emotion you could feel from their performances and the pure joy on the performers’ faces after they finished shows that even with the brutal hours and hard work they had to give, it was worth it.

The World Class Corps
The World Class Corps are another breed of spectacular. Watching their performances last night was mind-blowing to see how thousands of kids can come together and do THAT. To be able to perform in one of those corps takes years of dedication and incomprehensible skill and mastery over your instrument. They do things on their instruments, and perform things with their corps that normal people in marching band wish that we could do. I know they say nothing is impossible, and anything can be achieved with enough hard work, but these marchers seem to defy physics and ascend into a higher plane of existence. They are insane.
What We’ve Learned from DCI
DCI is the pinnacle of perfection. The peak of perfection. The paragon of performance. They display the most extreme of skill, dedication, and effort constantly and are always willing and ready to become better. Just watching DCI Corps perform can make us better.
What’s Next?
Since DCI is over til next year, I get to start reporting on my favorite international competition, WGI, aka Winter Guard International. WGI runs from November through February and showcases some of the most immaculate performances of Colorguard, Winter Percussion, and Winter Winds, who perform indoors and showcase very intricate and well-written narratives through performative dance and music.
Now, in the 2-3 months before November, I will report on BOA, Bands of America, which is a high school Marching Band circuit for the most talented and extreme levels of high school marching band. Personally, I can’t wait.
