We are off to a great start! Last week’s band camp was very productive. Thank you so much to the parents who volunteered during lunch, and our incredible Nutrition Staff who prepared the meals for us. Then on Friday, we were spoiled by a catered meal by Simply Catering. No one went home hungry, that’s for sure! We worked on marching fundamentals, began memorizing music, took team photos, had a pool party, and got to know each other. Next week, we begin learning drill and have our first public performance for Trojan Night!

Both weeks of camp are mandatory and important, but this is an extra special week because we will be joined by specialists to assist with instrument-specific sectionals to accelerate our learning and memorizing of music as we finalize preparations for our first performance, for Trojan Family Night on July 24. The section leaders have designated the following spirit days for band camp. We encourage our students to participate in the spirit days to increase relationship building and create memories together during this important week of our season.
Spirit Dress Up Days for Week 2
Band Camp Meals
This week, breakfast, lunch, and dinner be served, free of charge. Students may choose to eat breakfast at home or bring their own lunch or dinner if they decide not to eat the school meals. Students are not permitted to leave campus until after camp each day. Accommodations will be made for students with allergies. Please be sure that the band staff is aware of all dietary restrictions. Thank you so much to Mrs. Malmquist, our school system’s nutrition department, and our booster club for organizing these meals for our students!
Breakfast: A variety of Grab and Go Breakfast Options will be available in the Band room lobby each morning at 7:30 AM. Rehearsal starts at 8:00 AM. Please arrive in time to eat before rehearsal if you’d like breakfast.
Breakfast items each week may include: Cinnamon Rolls, Poptarts, Muffins, Cereal bar, Honey Bun, Powdered donuts, Super Donut

Preview Performance • Trojan Night
We will have our first public performance at Trojan Night on July 24, 2026. This is a free event and open to the public. The booster club is preparing dinner for all who would like to attend. Please RSVP by July 17 so that we know how much food to prepare.
We will finish with camp by 4:30PM that afternoon. Students will have time to eat dinner and change into heir show shirt and band shorts for the Trojan Night performance. We will perform our pre-game in the CHAMP, some of our pre-game on the field, in addition to a stand still and a marching performance of what we have learned by the end of camp. Afterwards, we will move to the band practice field for the candle light ceremony.
All parents are invited to watch the candle light ceremony, but Senior parents are asked to participate. We ask for Seniors and their parents to line up across the sideline closest to the band tower on the marching field. Junior students will line up across the field about 8 steps behind them on the field, sophomore students about 8 steps behind them, and freshmen students about 8 steps behind them. Students are dismissed immediately following the candle light ceremony.

Current Events
This past week, keeping up with their hot streak, the Blue Coats Corps remains undefeated after their triumphant tournament victory at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. DCI Houston also took place, giving fans another look at all of the many professional World Class Corps and how their performances continue to grow throughout the season. And unsurprisingly, the Blue Coats also won DCI Houston. An Additional shoutout goes to the Boise Gems, an Open Class Corps, who had a particularly amazing performance, showing the world that you can find hidden gems in all of the classes.
Corp Spotlight: THE BLUE COATS
Sprouting up from Canton, Ohio, the Blue Coats are on a generational run of victories this 2026/2027 DCI Season. They are practically undefeated, and now are setting the standard for excellence amongst corps. Their show this year, titled Gravity and Grace, is a magnificent display of the whole corps moving as one, and playing as a full, beautiful ensemble. You need only to watch the first 3 minutes of their show before you realize why they continue to win every competition they participate in. Their brass not only plays with DCI level power and technique, but they also sound beautiful, upping the competition amongst the World Class Corps.
What sets DCI apart? (#5)
Using the Blue Coats as an example, the DCI Corps has what seems like an impossible ensemble sound. Each player doesn’t just possess an infinite fountain of talent and skill, but when hundreds of those players come together and perform, the whole group gains this added level of presence and what feels like magic when they play.
One reason for this phenomenon is the level of blending, matching, and effort when playing. The DCI performers all perform with the highest amount of effort and discipline, so when they perform together, there isn’t a single part or instrument that feels weak or left out.
They also all possess fantastic musicianship and know exactly what parts need to be louder, how to make the music that they are playing feel alive, and how to play their instruments at the DCI level, all without needing to have a director explain things to them, one at a time.
Leadership Lesson (#5)
According to Dr. Carr, the 2026/2027 Trojan Marching Band is the loudest we have been in a very long time. Partially because of the sheer number of people within the band, but also because of how much more locked in as an ensemble we are this year. We still have a long way to go before we reach anything near the perfection that is DCI, but if we continue being as impressive as we were, only one week into band camp, I firmly believe that we’ll have no difficulties winning grand champions again.
Week Two of Band Camp!
Tomorrow, the Trojan Marching Band will finally learn drill for our show. I can’t give out any spoilers to any parents who aren’t aware of what The Guiding Light entails, but I promise it will leave you stunned. I hope to see everyone at Trojan Night on Friday, so you can see just how much everyone has learned in 2 short weeks, and how far we can go from there.
Health Class – PAST DUE
Reminder that the health course was scheduled to be finished by the end of last week. As far as I know, you should still have access to finish if you have fallen behind? This week will be tough to find time since we have camp all day long, but you need to make sure that you complete all course work before school starts – both the eADAP and the Edgenuity requirements.
