Continue to drink water – yesterday, today, and tomorrow – every day. A good rule of thumb is to drink your body weight in ounces of water per day and to check for clear urination. Here are some more tips to help with the next couple of weeks.
- Early is on time – we start promptly at 8:00 AM, give yourself time to eat breakfast before (available at 7:30 AM), to gather equipment, and to walk to wherever we start for rehearsal. Tomorrow we start in the band room.
- Be prepared – have your instrument, equipment, a pencil, and a water bottle every day.
- Try your hardest – We know this is new for many of our members. All that we ask is that you are always trying your best.
- Be optimistic – learning new skills takes time. Keep trying, and you’ll figure it out. Be patient with yourself and don’t give up.
- Make friends – we all have band in common and want to know each other. You’re an important member of the largest organization at Carrollton High School. Share about your summer, and get to know one another.
- Take care of yourself – hydrate and eat properly. You’ll burn more calories than you think. We will be providing breakfast and lunch. Be sure to eat.
- Care for your instrument. If your instrument needs repair, let a director know. We have a repair person from the Gift of Music who visits on Thursdays. He can often repair your instrument during his visit, but if he cannot, he can take your instrument back with him and repair it fully at his shop in Marietta. He will send an estimate before doing any work on your instrument if it has to go to the shop.
- Get some rest. Band camp can be strenuous, and it’s easier if you’re well-rested.
- Have fun! Band is a great way to make new friends and will be a core memory for the rest of your life. Let’s make the most of it together.

During this first week of band camp, this is our typical schedule:
- 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM marching fundamentals and drill in the SAC *We will start on Monday in the Band Room
- 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM Lunch
- 12:00 PM – 12:30 PM Sectional Skit Time
- 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM Sectionals (Woodwind, Brass, Battery, Front Ensemble, Guard)
- 3:15 PM – 5:00 PM Full Band
On Friday of the first week of band camp, it always seems to rain! Be sure to bring a change of clothes to rehearsal on Friday in case it rains. We will be outside on the band field for a portion of our morning block to help us acclimate to the heat a little better. Start the day with clothes/shoes that you do not mind getting wet in case it rains. This year, our pool party is on Friday as well! This is free for all of our students at Lakeshore Pool. We hope to see you at the pool for some free pizza and a fun time swimming together.
Band Camp Meals
Breakfast and lunch will be available for the first week through the school, free of charge. Students may choose to eat breakfast at home or bring their own lunch if they decide not to eat the school meals. Students are not permitted to leave campus until after camp each day. Accommodations will be made for students with allergies. Please be sure that the band staff is aware of all dietary restrictions. Thank you so much to Mrs. Malmquist, our school system’s nutrition department, and our booster club for organizing these meals for our students!
Breakfast: A variety of Grab and Go Breakfast Options will be available in the Band room lobby each morning at 7:30 AM. Rehearsal starts at 8:00 AM. Please arrive in time to eat before rehearsal if you’d like breakfast.

Preview Performance • Trojan Night
We will have our first public performance at Trojan Night on July 24, 2026. This is a free event and open to the public. The booster club is preparing dinner for all who would like to attend. Please RSVP by July 17 so that we know how much food to prepare.
Trojan Band students give a local Rock Concert
This past Friday, 3 Trojan Band students performed as members of a local band named BURNLINE at the community center in the Mill Pond subdivision for Jude Pethel’s birthday party. Congratulations to Cooper Mullins, Jude Pethel, and Luke Mullins for their outstanding performance alongside their frontman, Haiden Mulkey. They performed a set list that included Nirvana, Deftones, Sublime, Lit, and had a guest vocalist, Elijah Jackson, to sing some Justin Timberlake. Congratulations on your first public performance, and Happy Birthday, Jude!
DCI 2026 Week 4

News from last Week!
For the past week, several competitions have occurred, some small, but many large competitions have happened as well. The Blue Coats have been absolutely dominating in the competitions they have been participating in the World Class division. Blue Devils B have also been outshining everyone in the Open Class Division, making them the corps to beat. Additionally, many DCI corps went and performed at the Rose Bowl and the Whitewater competition in Wisconsin.
Corps Spotlight: SANTA CLARA VANGUARD
The Corps, originating in Santa Clara, California, is the epitome of a story, and feeling the emotions they are trying to portray within their music and visuals. Their 2026 show, titled With Reckless Abandon, shows off these bright, yellow chains, portraying chains that were never meant to be broken. After 2 movements of anguish and violent music, followed by peace and serenity after the chains had been broken. You can honestly FEEL the emotion and power through the musicians’ playing and just how much effort they put in.
What sets DCI apart? (#4)
DCI percussion is another beast of the already impressive concept that is Drum Corps International. They take discipline and exact measures to a whole other world. Every stick height, accent, movement, and rhythm is exact. If you took any of the marching snares, tenors, or basses and you had them play, they would look like exact mirror replicas, or straight robots with the precision and accuracy similar to their fellow players. They are the definition of discipline and precision.
Leadership Lesson (#4)
When learning drill, practicing music, and working with others, DCI members know when to act up, mess around, be friends, but also know when to stop talking, pay attention, and be the best musicians they can be. And at the highest level, everyone respects each other. Making sure you know the difference between when to act around and have fun and when to be quiet so you understand what’s happening can be the difference between winning zero competitions and winning every competition.
Looking Ahead/Band Camp Tomorrow!
Tomorrow, Monday, July 13th, will be the day to test how close we are to the DCI level. How impressive our new, 200+ person marching band can already leave an impact after only 2 short weeks of band camp. If anyone can come out and give it their all to be the best band in the land, it’s us, so PLEASE be prepared for Band Camp and what’s in store.
Health Class – Keep at it
Next week is supposed to be the last week of this course. eADAP certificates were due during the 1st week of June. Time is running out. If you’ve waited until the last minute, it’s here. It is time to put in the effort and get your work done.
