Busy Week Ahead!

Last week we had Jazz Performance evaluations, finished up guard and percussion auditions in preparation of next year, student achievements were celebrated on honors night, our seniors had their senior picnic, and the juniors and seniors celebrated at prom! We look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of our seniors as we approach their finals days at CHS. Don’t forget our Band Awards Ceremony is next Saturday, followed by the “band prom,” a party to celebrate our students! We are so blessed by and thankful for the leadership provided by our senior class. They continue to encourage our younger students as we prepare for our last few performances – BBQ on May 4, Spring Concert on May 9, and Graduation on May 19.

Congratulations to Connor Haley, Max Duncan, Logan Moore, Hunter Moore, Eric Malmquist, Madison Pate, Sidney Porter, Elisa Rubio, and Caroline Steed for participating in the UWG Chamber Music Festival hosted by Mr. Mothersole. The students participated in masterclasses on their chosen repertoire and the event concluded with a performance of their chamber ensemble in a festival recital.

Congratulations to all of our students. There was a ton of growth demonstrated during this audition! We had 4 students added to the Top 12 Leaderboard! The top 12 will be recognized on the plaque in the band room lobby, and the top 20 will be recognized as part of our 200 Club History.

Performances take place at Paulding County High School. Students should arrive by 12:30PM to sign in and warm-up, then get in line to perform. After performing, students will receive their rating sheets after the rating has been recorded. Students may choose to perform for Comments Only if they choose not to participate for ratings.

GENERAL requirements for all entries:

  • All solos and ensembles in all classifications perform only one (1) selection.
  • Musical value and suitability are considered in adjudication, and music is chosen at the discretion of the director. Comment sheets include the category “Suitability of Music” and require student’s grade level in school and number of years of study. Musical theater, Broadway, or popular music is not acceptable.
  •  Scores of all music performed including the accompaniment part must be furnished to each judge. Each score must have measures numbered. Photocopied scores may be used ONLY if a letter from the publisher or vendor is attached stating that the music is on order or is presently out of print. This letter must be dated at least 14 days prior to the first day of the event in question.
  • In cases where a score is not published (string quartet music, for example) a copy of the principal part must be supplied to the judge with measures numbered.
  • Solos for which an accompaniment part is published must be performed with the accompaniment. Reminder: A performance of a solo without an accompaniment when the accompaniment part is published will result in the lowering of the performers rating by one division. Recorded accompaniment may be used, but MUST NOT have solo part added (no play-along-with-the-melody type tapes are allowed). The student must furnish the play-back equipment.
  • All ensemble parts must be performed by students, bona fide accompaniments excepted. Reminder: If all ensemble parts are not performed, the rating of the performance will be lowered by one division.
  • No instrumental ensemble part may be played by more than two (2) persons unless scored for more.
  • Memorization is NOT required in instrumental solos or ensembles.
  • There is no sight-reading requirement for Solo and Ensemble Performance Evaluation entries.

Band Awards • April 29 • Help/Donations Needed

The band awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 29 at 6:00PM in the MAC. It is a semi-formal event and we look forward celebrating the achievements of our students! Immediately following the awards ceremony, we will continue the celebration in the band room with dancing and games for the students. We ask that parents help provide desserts and snacks for the after party.

Please use this link to sign-up: Volunteer Here for the reception after the awards

There are links for volunteer spots to help set-up/clean-up, but there are also places to let others know if you plan on bringing a dessert, chips, etc. Thank you so much for your help in making this event memorable for your child!!

BAND BBQ • Ticket Money PAST DUE

BBQ Turn in was LAST FRIDAY. Although we can continue selling BBQ, we need to know how much BBQ to order and need to collect orders to prepare properly. The packets were handed out the week before Spring Break.

Raffle Items Needed • We draw the winners on Facebook Live and will recognize the sponsors. Gift cards to businesses make great items. If you have connections with local businesses, please ask if they have an item we can use in our raffle. The grand prize is $500, but having multiple chances to win can help sell the tickets and is a way to support our local businesses. Thank you for your help with this important fundraiser!
