Unforgettable week

Last week will be memorable for many reasons. We started the week with heavy hearts after learning of the passing of a beloved Trojan father. Carlos Menendez was a tremendous supporter of the Trojan Nation, if Ms. Menendez was involved then Carlos was too. He attended many Trojan football games, assisted with fundraisers, never missed a concert, and was at many Thursday night rehearsals too. He made quick friends through his friendly conversation and was always willing to help anyone who needed him. Our hearts are still heavy but we are so thankful for the legacy that he left behind. Ms. Menendez is a servant leader like her father and we are so fortunate that she is a leader of our band program. If you would like to send support for Ms. Menendez, you can contact our booster president – Cheryl Moore at themoores004@gmail.com.

We had the opportunity to assist Ms. Casteneda and our Junior High students attend LGPE. Ms. Menendez prepared the students so well that our job was very easy. The future of our band program remains bright! Our JrHS Concert Band received a II, II, I on stage and a I in sight-reading; the Symphonic Band received a I, I, I on stage and a I in sight-reading; and the Wind Ensemble received a I, I, I on stage and a I in sight-reading! The students performed exceptionally well!!

Then our high school bands had the opportunity to perform on Thursday of last week and also did an outstanding job! Because we were out of school on Friday and have not shared the results with the students yet, we want to share it with them on Monday morning during class before sharing online. But, please know that they had outstanding performances and we are very proud of their continued growth! The Concert Band performed under the leadership of Mr. Walters and Mr. Fielding. They had a great performance on stage and in sight-reading. The Symphonic Band performed under the leadership of Mr. Nelson. They prepared a difficult program and performed it very well! Many compliments have been received about their choice of literature and the maturity that they exhibited while performing it. The Wind Ensemble performed under the leadership of Mr. Carr. They had the opportunity to close out the evening with another challenging program. It was an inspired performance that will be remembered for a long time!

Saturday we hosted the 3rd Annual Trojan Band 5K! Thank you to Kim Jones, Mr. Nelson, and our booster club leadership for your outstanding work organizing the race. There were many volunteers who showed up despite frigid temperatures to make this event successful! Our band students cheered on runners while playing stand tunes in various locations throughout the course. Although it was a cold morning, it was a great morning!!! Thank you for your assistance in making this year successful.

Saturday afternoon our Winterguards competed at Creekview HS in their final competition before SAPA Championships. The JV team finished 4th place in their division, and the Varsity team finished 3rd! The Varsity also received a promotion to a harder division because of the complexity of their show and their performance quality. Our JV team finishes their season at SAPA Champhionships on Saturday, April 1 in McKenzie Arena at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga and the Varsity performs their championship run on the following day on Sunday, April 2. Please come out to support our teams on March 30th for their friends and family show at 7:00PM in our CHS Gym.
