At the end of the recent school year Mrs. Greene, our color guard instructor, approached me with some wonderful news. Her husband Tim had received a band directing job! The unfortunate part of the news was that the new position was in Texas. When I asked her how she was going to handle the commute from Texas to Georgia on a daily basis to continue teaching our guard, she laughed and said that she wished that were possible. As sad as I am that we have to say goodbye to Mrs. Greene, I am extremely happy for the blessings that God continues to provide for her and her family. Congratulations to the Greene family on Tim’s new position at Cypress Ranch High School. They are very blessed to have such a talented family join their community.
Back home, as we continue to prepare for the coming year, we too are blessed with the opportunity to announce a new staff member, Color Guard Instructor, Mr. John Gray. After having the opportunity to spend some time with Mr. Gray, receiving numerous high recommendations, and an opportunity to watch him teach our students, I am proud to welcome Mr. Gray to the Carrollton High School Band Program. Mr. Gray has actually taught color guard for the Trojans in the late ’80s and then returned with Mr. Don Hall for the 2007 school year. He has also taught at many other high schools throughout his career, including the stellar programs at Lassiter High School and Northgate High School. He has marched with the Spirit of Atlanta and the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps and just last year had the opportunity to perform with the Madison Scouts alumni corps in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York. Mr. Gray also directs and choreographs for the JSU Syndicate, which is an alumni guard for the Jacksonville State University Marching Southerners.
Please join us in welcoming Mr. Gray back to the Carrollton Trojan Band family!
Christopher Carr,
Carrollton High School Band Director
