Legacy of Champions a Huge Success & The Week Ahead

14568016_517205755153542_6277380035770896611_nIt was a beautiful fall day on the Carrollton City School Campus this past Saturday as the Carrollton Trojan Marching Band, and the Carrollton Trojan Band Boosters hosted the second Edition of The Legacy of Champions Marching Band Competition. And while winds gusting in excess of 20mph provided a challenge for events coordinators, it did not hinder the competitiveness of the excellent bands in attendance.

The event, which took place on the gorgeous 130-acre campus of the Carrollton City School system, within historic Grisham Stadium, featured performances by fifteen local and regional bands. The large crowd of supporters and marching band enthusiasts that gathered were treated to amazing performances, a variety of vendors, concessions, and first-class facilities that helped to ensure an enjoyable day for everyone. The evening concluded with a greatly anticipated awards ceremony, highlighted by the presentation of our massive, one-of-a-kind, traveling Grand Championship Trophy, The Legacy Sword Trophy. At the end of the evening, the Legacy Sword Trophy was awarded to the Woodland Wildcat Marching Band of Woodland High School, located in Cartersville, Georgia. In addition to being named the Grand Champions, Woodland also received the prestigious Don Hall Music Award. Congratulations to all of the students, staff, boosters, and supporters of the Woodland High School Band for their remarkable success at the Legacy of Champions Marching Band Competition.

We would also like to say a big thank you to all of the Carrollton community for your overwhelming encouragement and support. In addition, thank you for the herculean efforts of our event staff and volunteers.

This will be a great time to ask questions and make sure you are properly prepared to provide a gold standard experience to each and everyone of our guests who join us for our competition.

Volunteer Opportunities

If you have not sign-up yet or are not sure for the Legacy of Champions is… The Legacy of Champions (LoC) is a marching band competition that the Carrollton Trojan Band Boosters host here on the Carrollton City Schools campus. It is becoming one of our top fundraisers, with proceeds going to reduce the cost of future band trips for all students. This allows us to consider more extravagant trips and for more students to go. All band students are required to work the entire day and all band parents/guardians are expected to work at least two volunteer shifts, but highly encouraged to commit to working the whole day.

The success of our event takes the support and efforts of ALL of our parents/boosters. So please take a moment and visit our volunteer page: https://chstrojanband.com/volunteer/ and review all of the various sign-ups available for the event. There is a large variety of volunteer positions available, from staffing gates or ticket booths, to being a parking attendant. Or how about working concessions, working a fryer, grilling, or just serving as a general volunteer. There is something for everyone! The most important part is to just be involved, so please take time to sign-up today!

So if you haven’t signed up yet to help with this event, please do so now. We need everyone to participate! Alumni are welcome to volunteer too!

Food Needs

Finally, we still have some pressing food needs, especially: green beans, corn, mashed potatoes, soup, and rolls! Our competition hosts one of the best hospitality rooms in the state! We do this by spoiling our guests rotten with comfortable surroundings, Southern hospitality, and great food! So to ensure we continue this great tradition, we need your help with the “great food” part. Please visit this sign-up: https://www.charmsoffice.com/charms/volunteerR.asp?s=carrgahsb&v=3208093  and volunteer to prepare and bring: Soups, rolls, tea, lemonade, green beans, mashed potatoes, mac-n-cheese, etc. (The hospitality team will contact you with full details and times after signing up.)

Aliens Have Just Landed At Carrollton High School!

wowaliens“Citizens of the Trojan Nation: We shall not try to conceal the gravity of the situation that confronts our nation, nor the concern of your band boosters in supporting the band program and needs of its band students. However, I wish to impress upon you — parents, guardians, and supporters, all of you — the urgent need of your service and resourceful action. Fortunately, these formidable needs are still achievable, and we may place our faith in our supporters to meet them. In the meantime, we must continue the performance of our duties each and every one of us, so that we may confront this need as a nation united, courageous, and dedicated to the excellence of Trojan Band.” (adapted from “The War of the Worlds”; Orson Welles)

Now that we have you attention… or at least scratching your heads thinking, “What in the world are they talking about?”, we wanted to relay to you some very important needs associated with our fast-approaching Legacy of Champions Marching Band Competition that takes place October 8th, 2016. We need your help with ATVs, golf carts, trailers, food, and fulfilling volunteer duties the day of the event. Please see below for details about each need.

ATVs, Golf Carts, & Trailers

These motorized vehicles & trailers will be used for hauling the equipment for the various bands that will be performing at the competition. We can use either four wheelers, utvs, etc. These vehicles will need to have a trailer hitch for pulling a trailer. We are in need of 8 or more of these vehicles. The golf carts will not be used to pull trailers but rather used by staff in the performance of their duties. We are in need of 8 or more of these vehicles.

We also need trailers to place the equipment on. These will need to have a ramp that can be lowered. The size we can use would be 6′ wide by 12′ or less long, due to restrictions of gate sizes at the stadium. We are in need of 8 or more of these as well.

If you have any of these items and can lend them for the day, please send an email to j.jones@metrocomms.net ASAP. Also, if you are available to volunteer to drive one of these vehicles the day of the event, please sing-up here: https://www.charmsoffice.com/charms/volunteerR.asp?s=carrgahsb&v=3164678  or contact the Logistics Coordinator, Jeff Jones, directly by emailing: j.jones@metrocomms.net.

Food Needs

Our competition hosts one of the best hospitality rooms in the state! We do this by spoiling our guests rotten with comfortable surroundings, Southern hospitality, and great food! Please visit this sign-up: https://www.charmsoffice.com/charms/volunteerR.asp?s=carrgahsb&v=3208093  and volunteer to prepare and bring: Brownies, cakes, candy, chips, cookies, soups, rolls, tea, lemonade green beans, mashed potatoes, mac-n-cheese, etc. (The hospitality team will contact you with full details and times after signing up.)

This is a great way to help out if your find yourself not available to actually be on campus volunteering that day or to go that extra mile in supporting our band program.

Volunteer Opportunities

Did you know that volunteering at the Legacy of Champions is actually expected of all of our boosters/parents? This event is such a huge undertaking and is becoming one of our top fundraisers, with proceeds going to reduce the cost of future band trips for all students. This allows us to consider more extravagant trips and for more students to go. All band students are required to work the entire day and parents/band boosters are expected to work at least two volunteer shifts during the event, but highly encouraged to commit to working the whole day.
