Trojans in Athens!

This weekend we were represented extremely well at the Georgia Music Educators Association annual In Service Conference, in Athens, GA!

On Friday Madison Pate and Sidney Porter attended the high school experience where they participated in professional development sessions organized by GMEA President, Matt Koperniak that were geared toward preparing them for the next steps of becoming a music educator.

During the entire conference, Justin Arnold was practicing with the All-State Jazz Band. His efforts culminated in an outstanding concert! His clinician, Michele Fernandez, composed many of the works that the students performed and they were prepared the students expertly. It was evident throughout the concert that Ms. Fernandez developed an inclusive environment which nurtured breathtaking musicianship from the band. It’s hard to believe that they prepared all 7 charts in 6 rehearsals!! Bravo!

Saturday morning our Saxophone Quartet performed a triptych of Astor Piazolla tangos in the lobby just before the All-State Jazz Band concert. Their performance was outstanding! The ensemble consisted of Madison Pate on soprano saxophone, Sidney Porter on alto saxophone, Elisa Rubio on tenor saxophone, and Caroline Steed on baritone saxophone. The students responded to a Google Classroom poster asking for interested students to form an ensemble, rehearse the music, and perform it for Mr. Carr for approval of submission. They were so well prepared that they were asked to perform it for first block so that the audition recording could be made. When we received the official invitation in November, the students added 2 more pieces to their repertoire to fill out the concert. Special thank you to our student teacher, Gavin Fielding, for your coaching these past 2 weeks to help the students add the final polish to their performance. Hearing them perform with effortless artistry was a highlight of the morning!

Thank you so much to our very supportive parents who made the logistics possible for our students to participate these past few days while our directors were attending professional development sessions.

Brava to Ms. Menendez for her clinic presentation this morning during which she presented fundamental processes that are important to sustain excellence in a band program. We are extremely blessed by her leadership of our CJHS Band! She continues to be passionate about learning new things and sharing best practices with colleagues as she continues to prepare our students for high school.

Our Trojans represented our community very well in Athens! Thank you to everyone who made it possible! Go Trojans!
