Another Great Week of Summer

Our website has a new look. Since we are applying for National Parades, Dr. Carr realized that our website needs to serve as an additional resume that reflects the excellence that we expect from our program. After doing some reserach, best practices recommend a consolidated menu format, and a welcome page that does not immediately display the weekly update. The new landing page should tell the story of our band program in a snap shot and allow all kinds of visitors to find what they are looking for easily. If you notice something that makes navigating our website difficult, or if you find a mistake, please email Dr. Carr (christopher.carr@carrolltoncityschools.net) so that he can make the necessary corrections. Thank you for your assistance!

Trojan Band Member at GHP!

The Carrollton High School Trojan Band is proud to congratulate Tyler Clotfelter on his selection to the Georgia Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) in Music as an Alto Saxophonist.

One of Georgia’s most prestigious student honors, GHP is a highly competitive four-week residential summer program that brings together outstanding students from across the state for advanced study and enrichment in their area of talent. During the program, Tyler will study with master teachers, perform alongside exceptional young musicians, and collaborate with peers who share his passion for music.

Tyler’s selection reflects his dedication, musicianship, and commitment to excellence. We are incredibly proud of this achievement and look forward to hearing about his experiences this summer. Congratulations, Tyler!

New Blog Section

As a way to provide more student voice and volition and to spark interest in this year’s Drum Corps International (DCI) season, I reached out to our student leadership team for volunteers to write articles about the season. Reese Roenigk responded quickly to the call and has provided the first article for our new section: Excellence Observed. Reese, thank you for leading this effort. I look forward to reading what you have to say each week as you highlight the DCI season for us!

DCI 2026 Season Preview

Summer Kick-off

The 2026 DCI Season is about to begin, and fans are already at the edge of their seats. Corps like Phantom Regiment, the Boston Crusaders, and the Bluecoats are expected to have a seat in the finals. While full show reveals haven’t been given out to the public yet, short clips and media can be found online that give us a glimpse into what the corps have in store for us.

One of the biggest tensions going into the season is whether the Boston Crusaders will start a legacy and win back-to-back years, or will another corp swoop in and win the trophy.

Boston Crusaders

The returning Grand Champions of Drum Corp International, the Boston Crusaders are known for their almost overwhelming brass sound, and intricate visuals and stunning effects. They dominate in the DCI space, and leave no room for questions.

The culture of the Boston Crusaders emphasizes excellence, resilience, and pride. They outshine the stars around them by flexing and showing off their seemingly impossible brass features, including last year (2025), in their show titled, BOOM!, where the mellophones used both hands and played other player’s horns, creating a web of crossed arms and mellophones. Undoubtebly, one of the most iconic moments of last year.

What sets DCI Apart?

Individual brass players within any Drum Corp have already mastered the fundamentals of their instruments. They have moved on to more advanced techniques like double and triple-tonguing, and even piercing past the expected range of their instrument, playing well into the stratosphere.  The brass players blast just about every note they play. They push so much air through their horns, with even more precision, allowing every player to achieve that DCI level of presence while on the field.

Leadership Lessons

Not only do Drum Corp participants have to work 8+ hours a day for weeks on end, they typically don’t have the benefit of an indoor facility like Carrollton does. They work in the sweltering summer heat, practice brutal hours, and on top of all of the dedication and determination they had to put in to even be chosen to be in the corp, THEY PAY TO BE THERE. They pay to spend months in the 100 degree weather, sleep on cold, hard floors, and work themselves to the bone, because the reward they receive from it, is so worth it.  They willingly do the hard stuff, so they can get better and achieve excellence. That is the core definition of our motto, HUSTLE.

Looking Ahead

As the 2026 season begins, fans should watch for developing rivalries, innovative show designs, and breakout performances from both veteran and emerging corps. With talented performers across the activity, this summer promises to be another exciting chapter for DCI.

Health Class

eADAP Certificates were due a couple of weeks ago, but I understand that many families may have been on vacation. If your child has not completed this task, please prioritize it this week. Also, if your child has not been able to access the course in Edgenuity, please contact me immediately so that I can assist with getting them into the class.
