Carrollton Christmas Parade

Friday night our band cheered loudly for our Trojans, who faced a very well prepared Walton team. Our football provided a strong effort but ultimately lost the match ending our season. We were fortunate enough to perform one more time with our seniors as we pulled the flag for the final game this year in Grisham Stadium.

This Saturday we have our annual Christmas parade through downtown Carrollton, then followed by fun and fellowship in the band room for our band students.

CONGRATULATIONS!

We had 3 students selected to participate in the District Honor Jazz Band! Because of everything going on, we recognized them in class, and put it on Facebook, but I completely forgot to share here. They also have been given the opportunity to audition for the state level which is taking place this Saturday at Villa Rica HS. Please help me in congratulating Nathan Stagliano, principal alto saxophone; Connor Haley, principal baritone saxophone; and Justin Arnold, trumpet for this terrific honor! They performed at concert on Tuesday after we returned from New York in Ringgold, GA at Heritage HS. Each were featured with an improvised solo and did an outstanding job. They are excellent ambassadors of our band program, school, and community!

Christmas Parade

The Christmas parade is this Saturday! We wear our band uniforms, but also a traditional red Santa hat. The Santa hats were sent home with the students last year, so if you do not have one, you will need to purchase one in time for the parade. A regular traditional Red and White Santa hat, so that we all match. We will wear this hat again for our concert on December 12, so please keep up with it.

  • 3:15PM Band Room Open
  • 4:00PM Report in Uniform to the Band Room
  • 4:15PM Depart for parade
  • 4:30PM Stage
  • 5:30PM Parade step-off
  • 6:30PM Load and return to the band room
  • 7:00PM Christmas Party in the band room

Christmas Party • Saturday 7:00pm – 9:00pm

The boosters are planning a fun evening for our students following the parade on Saturday. This is where we collect the gifts for the families we are sponsoring for Christmas. More information on how to assist with the sponsor is listed below. Walking tacos will be served, but we ask for parents do donate sweet treats to be enjoyed along with dinner. There will be some games played woodwinds vs. brass vs. guard vs. percussion; an ugly sweater competition complete with a trophy; and s’mores!

We will need help Friday afternoon to decorate for the party, help with supervision at the party, and cleaning up at the end of the party. If you are able to help out, please sign-up here to volunteer.

200 Club Continues to GROW!

It is impressive each audition to hear our students continue to push the boundaries that were previously thought to be impossible. During this audition, a new milestone was reached. Nathan Stagliano is the first student to break the 300 point barrier! Congratulations Nathan! Thank you for consistently putting in the work. Boundaries aren’t broken on a whim, but only through dedicated consistent practice. You have lead that charge this year and set a new high record. Because of your leadership others are beginning to follow! Congratulations to the following students on making it into the 200 club again this audition.

Parents, 200 points is above and beyond. Your child is still doing well if they are not achieving 200 points, but if it is a goal of theirs to push the limits then making the 200 club is a great goal. Practicing their scales daily, first at a slow pace, and then using a metronome to measure their progress is the quickest path to earning a spot on the 200 Club plaque. There are 12 major scales, and 3 forms of 12 minor scales that they can practice to earn points during their 2 minute scale challenge. That’s a total of 48 scales that can earn them credit. Additionally, many of those scales can be performed 2 octaves each, and some instruments can perform them 3 octaves. The learning of scales demonstrates persistence and discipline. They are not the most fun aspect of music, but they are fundamental to creating all music. Thank you for encouraging your child to practice daily. 10 – 15 minutes a day does wonders and if done strategically with goals in mind, can lead to scholarships in the future.

We still have a few students who were not well for auditions before the break who will be taking their auditions this week. Once we have auditions finalized, we will post the results.
