Important Updates

Hello! I hope that you all are enjoying the sunshine and drier weather! I have a few things to share with you.

First, today, June 27th, the next installment of band fees are due. ($75). Mrs. Dothard will be in the band room from 8 am – 4 pm or dues can be paid online at https://carrolltonhs.revtrak.net/Band-Fees/. Remember, band fees are paid to the school and the school accepts cash or credit cards.

Second, we will have a work day, this Saturday, July 1st from 10 am – noon. We will use this time to clean out the garage in anticipation of band camp and a new year! Come dressed to work and bring a broom!

Third, the 4th of July parade is next week! We need some volunteers to be at some set locations to hand out waters to our kids. Please check the sign up sheet in Charms to participate and help out! Lastly, the parade practice is July 3rd from 3-6pm at the band room. Encourage your student to start hydrating!!!

Hello all.

I hope you are all enjoying your summer vacation time. I am sure a portion of you have heard that I will not be returning next fall to CJHS. It is true that I have been offered and accepted a new position closer to my home.

Accepting this position was a tough decision as I have been at CJHS for 9 years. My decision was based solely on the need to be closer to home to help be there for my family.

The last 9 years in Carrollton have meant so much to me. Carrollton City Schools is a fabulous, supportive, and rewarding place to work because of the awesome parents, students, and supportive administration. I have received emails from students already telling me how much they learned from from me, and I am humbled by that. What they don’t realize is how much I learned from them. I couldn’t have imagined a better place to start my teaching career.

I am so thankful to the band staff for being so supportive in my decision. I will continue to write and design this year’s marching band show and watch from afar as the Trojan Marching Band has another incredible marching season.

Thank you all for being such dedicated parents to not only me but the activity of band. Carrollton families have always had a huge respect for the importance of music and its impact on their children. With a new director being added to the already amazing band staff the future is bright for the band program in Carrollton.

Thank you all again for your support.

A Few Reminders!

We hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far and we hate to interrupt your break, but we want to pass along some helpful reminders.
  • Next installment of band/guard fees is next Tuesday, June 27, 2017.
Don’t forget the next installment of band/guard fees is due Tuesday, June 27th. These fees can be paid online at the link below or at the band room during summer office hours which are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8am-4pm.  Please remember that these fees are paid to CHS and the high school does not accept checks. Payments should be cash or credit card.
  • Fourth of July Parade practice will be Monday, July 3rd, 2017 from 3pm-6 pm. 
In preparation for the Fourth of July Parade, there will be a practice on July 3rd from 3-6pm. Please begin drinking lots of water in preparation of the parade!  It will more than likely be hot!!  Also, students, please go to Charms and print out the parade music, American Pride. Having the music in advance and working on it at home will make our practice more productive.

Mark your calendars… Band camp is just a few weeks away!!  Pre-camp is July 17-21 and band camp is July  24-28.

Trojan Band Assistant Band Director

It was with mixed feelings that we said goodbye to Josh Robichaux as our assistant band director.  He is an extremely dedicated and talented teacher, musician, and friend.  Although we will miss him dearly, we are proud of him and for his next chapter as assistant band director at East Paulding High School.  Mr. Robichaux’s decision to move was not an easy one because of how much he loves the Trojan Band and the Carrollton Community, but the opportunity benefited his family enough that he couldn’t resist.  East Paulding High School is only 4 minutes from his home, compared to his one way hour commute to Carrollton every day.  We wish Mr. Robichaux the best of luck and look forward to seeing him again as we play the East Paulding Raiders in Football on September 15, 2017.

With the news of Mr. Robichaux’s decision, Mr. Brooks and Mr. Carr worked diligently to find another assistant band director.  We received many applications for the position and the best candidate was chosen.

Neal Bright

Please help us welcome Mr. Neal Bright as the Assistant Band Director at Carrollton High School.  Mr. Bright will also be directing all of our percussion activities at CHS.

Neal Bright was the Director of Bands at Sammy McClure Middle School and Percussion Coordinator at North Paulding High School in Dallas, GA. A graduate of Effingham County High School, he holds a Bachelor’s of Music Education degree with an emphasis on percussion from Georgia Southern University. While at GSU, he was a drumline instructor for the Southern Pride Marching Band as well as the GSU Indoor Drumline, which earned 3rd place at the Percussive Art Society International Convention. Throughout his career he has participated, instructed, and written for some of the top groups in the world. Mr. Bright was the Co-Captain for the Atlanta Quest Independent World drumline its first two years in existence, and has recently served as a Battery Tech. He also marched on the tenor line for the 2008 DCA Class A World Champion and High Percussion winner, Alliance Drum and Bugle Corps. His 2009 Scholastic A indoor drumline won the title of SAPA Champions, also earning 14th place and a Semi-finalist at WGI World Championships. Mr. Bright currently designs and composes music and shows for Countermotion Inc.  Neal Bright is sponsored by Vic Firth and would like to thank them for all they do.

Mr. Bright, we are excited to welcome to our band family!  Mr. Carr speaks very highly of your character, passion, and enthusiasm.  Go Trojans!

Meals During Summer Practices

I hope that everyone’s summer is off to a great start!  Next week is a big week for us as we are in the beginning preparations for this season.  Our 2017 show, 12 Seconds to the Moon is going to be spectacular, I look forward to putting it together with you all soon.

Just a quick reminder that meals will be provided by the school system for all of our students during our summer practices.  You are welcome to pack a breakfast/lunch if you prefer, but the meals provided by the school system are completely free, all that you have to do is sign up for them so that we can let the school know that you need one.

Since our color guard is meeting on Monday’s (starting Monday June 5th) from 10:00AM – 9:00PM, only lunch will be provided, because the school system does not provide dinners. Parents are welcome to bring dinner for their children, pack one for them in a cooler, or send money for them to order something to be delivered.  Some good options for delivery would be Jimmy Johns, Domino’s, Papa John’s, etc.  Use this link to sign up for lunch at our summer color guard practices : https://goo.gl/FCaIHh.

Our new assistant band director is set to be approved at the board meeting on June 6.  Since I am in Athens, GA Monday through Thursday completing doctoral work, we have scheduled a meet and greet with the new assistant band director on June 9 at 5:00PM.  If you are willing to bring an appetizer to share, it’ll make our meeting more fun.  I hope to see you there!
