Home again Friday! Auditions Thur.

Last week was another outstanding week for our band students! We participated on Tuesday in the ROTC assemblies to honor veterans and finished the day with a concert that evening. We were able to perform a few pieces in memory of Dr. Ernest McClendon and honor his wife, Doris, who was in attendance. We performed again for our Veterans and closed with a performance of our marching show followed by Battle Hymn. It was a great first concert of the year! On Friday, we cheered on our football team to another victory and performed the Armed Forces Salute one more time to honor all Veterans in attendance at the game. Our band students had the opportunity to race the Gold Flash and Camren Harley smoked him!

Food Drive Initiative | Final Week

Aziza Prince shared a great idea with me and has been working on organizing the following for a few days! She recruited a few more to help her and created the attached slideshow.

Here is the message from Aziza.

“Hi, I’m Aziza Prince. I’m a part of the Color Guard for the Carrollton Trojan Marching Band. As you may know, many people are losing SNAP and EBT benefits. Many families plan around SNAP benefits and highly depend on them. That’s why I decided to start a food drive with the band. Every section in the band can donate non-perishable food items or hygiene items. Please be mindful of expiration dates.

Non-Perishable Food Items –  IMPORTANT:
Canned soups, chili, or stew
Canned tuna, chicken, or salmon
Boxed macaroni and cheese
Instant mashed potatoes
Pasta and pasta sauce (canned or jarred)
Rice (white, brown, or flavored packets)
Dry beans or lentils
Peanut butter and jelly (plastic jars preferred)
Granola bars or protein bars
Instant oatmeal or cereal boxes
Crackers or peanut butter crackers
Juice boxes or Bottled Water
Ramen noodles or cup noodles
Canned vegetables (corn, green beans, peas)
Canned fruits (peaches, pears, mixed fruit)

Hygiene  Items:
Toothpaste and toothbrushes
Bar soap or body wash
Shampoo and conditioner
Deodorant (men’s and women’s)
Lotion or moisturizer
Feminine hygiene products (pads, tampons)
Disposable razors
Shaving cream
Hand sanitizer
Toilet paper
Wet wipes
Combs and hairbrushes

Starting Monday, November 10th, each group will have their own two boxes with their names on it. One box is for hygiene items, while the other box is for food items.

Here’s how the sections will be grouped:
Group Red Color guard (29) + Low reeds (5)
Group Yellow Trumpet (22) + Baritone (11)
Group Green Clarinet (17) + Flutes (14) + Drum Majors (3)
Group Blue Mellophones (15) + Tuba (10) + Saxophone (7)
Group Purple Trombone (12) + Batterie (12) + Front ensemble (12)

Whichever section donates the most items wins a Chick-Fil-A breakfast!
This food drive will last from Monday, November 10th to Thursday, November 20th. The winner will be announced on Friday, November 21st.

Please help us collect as many items as possible so that we can help those in need.”

Christmas Sponsorship

Each year we participate in our school system’s Christmas Sponsorship program. This year we have been assigned a family who has 5 children ranging from age 4 to age 11. If you’re able and willing we would greatly appreciate your help in providing Christmas for this family. We ask that all items be brought in, unwrapped, but labeled with the child’s age and gender by the Christmas parade. This will allow the student leadership some time to get everything wrapped. Thank you so much for helping us successfully sponsor a family.
