Veterans Day and Playoffs!

Last Monday, we hosted a golf tournament at Mirror Lake Golf Course. Tremendous, thank you to Jacob Moomey for his leadership of the event and the generous sponsors who made the event possible! Although the morning was cold and overcast, the day turned out to be beautiful, and it was a great day of golf.

Hyundai Carrollton, our Gold Sponsor for the golf tournament, brought vehicles to display on the course and hung out with us all day. Silver Sponsors, BLT Flooring and Clearview Installation, each had a team in the tournament. Kemp Electric, our Bronze Sponsor, also had a team play in the tournament. Special thank you to Cross Automotive for sponsoring the Longest Drive with a Black Stone Grill and spending the day with us at the hole! And to Arrowhead Land Company for sponsoring the Closest to the Pin with an Arctic Cooler. Thank you to RaLin for sponsoring a team, which allowed Dr. Carr and Mr. Nelson to play along with a few band alumni. Money raised during the tournament will be used to send our Winterguard to the annual SAPA Championships.

Atlanta Clarinet Day

This past Saturday, Ann Haley attended Atlanta Clarinet Day at Parkview High School! During the day, she watched multiple recitals performed by collegiate faculty from across the state, participated in clinics about the District Honor Band etudes, jazz improvisation techniques, observed a masterclass by Dr. Andy Hudson, and participated in the Atlanta Clarinet Day clarinet choir. The choir performed a piece alongside Dr. Hudson for the finale of the day. Ann, thank you so much for continuing to pursue growth opportunities! You are an outstanding role model for your peers.

You can see Ann in the photo below on the front row, right behind Dr. Hudson! You can also spot Dr. Carr on the 3rd row on the opposite side. He attended the event too as one of the event organizers.

  • 6:15PM Concert Band students report to the stage
  • 6:45PM Symphonic Band students report to Mr. Cox’s room and Wind Ensemble students report to the audience

  • Approximately 8:45PM the concert concludes

Students should either help set up before the concert or assist with clean-up. This is part of their grade for the concert. We have to remove all deocrations, move all stands back to under the stage, all chairs and percussion equipment back to the band room. Many hands make light work. Thank you so much for your assistance!

We are decorating the hall immediately after school. We will hang bunting, and the service flags to get ready for the concert. If parents are available to assist, we’d appreciate your help.

Food Drive Initiative

Aziza Prince shared a great idea with me and has been working on organizing the following for a few days! She recruited a few more to help her and created the attached slideshow.

Here is the message from Aziza.

“Hi, I’m Aziza Prince. I’m a part of the Color Guard for the Carrollton Trojan Marching Band. As you may know, many people are losing SNAP and EBT benefits. Many families plan around SNAP benefits and highly depend on them. That’s why I decided to start a food drive with the band. Every section in the band can donate non-perishable food items or hygiene items. Please be mindful of expiration dates.
