We hope that everyone has had an outstanding holiday break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to campus this week! Classes for the 2nd semester begin on Tuesday! We have many exciting things coming up this semester: 2nd Round All-State Auditions, MLK Parade, Winterguard competitions, UGA JanFest, Wind Ensemble performance at the GMEA State Conference, District Honor Band, All-State, Large Group Performance Evaluations, SAPA Championships, Jazz Performance Evaluations, Band Banquet, Band BBQ, Spring Concert, and more!!

Wind Ensemble Rehearsal at UWG • Monday, 1/6/25

We will rehearse on Monday, January 6 at UWG from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM in the Humanities Building. Dr. Byrd is opening his facility for us. We need to get in there a few times to practice with the percussion equipment we will be using for our GMEA performance. These rehearsals will help us gauge how different it is for them and allow us to practice transitioning from piece to piece more properly. 

The band room will be open in the morning for you to grab large instruments if they are at the school beginning at 8:00 AM. Be sure to grab your instrument by noon. Percussion, we have quite a bit more equipment to move. Mr. Nelson posted in Google Classroom your times. We could use help from non-percussionists too! 9:45AM meet at the band room to load, 10:30am depart for UWG, 10:40am unload. 11:00am Set-up percussion equipment. 11:50am dismiss for lunch. 1:00PM rehearsal begins.

The lot in front of the Humanities Building will be open for you to park. Be sure to arrive at the UWG band room by 1:00 PM with everything that you need for rehearsal (pencil, music, instrument(s), reeds, mouthpieces, mutes, spoons, etc.). UWG’s band room will be open for us by 12:30 PM for you to arrive and warm up a bit before we get started. I have attached a map to assist you/parents.

On Wednesday 1/8/25, we will have class at UWG again. We will depart CHS by bus at 8:30 AM to get there in time. Please arrive to school early enough so that we can call roll and load the buses to allow us to depart at 8:30AM. We will rehearse until 11:00 AM and be back at CHS by 11:30 AM for you to report to 3rd block.

2nd Round All-State Auditions on Saturday

Congratulations to the following students for earning a spot in the District Honor Band, which will be hosted in Ringgold, GA in February, and for the students who qualified for the 2nd Round of auditions, which will take place at Union Grove High School this Saturday (January 11, 2025). If we experience the forecasted inclement weather, the date may be postponed 1 week to January 18, 2025.

UGA JanFest • January 16 – 18, 2025

Congratulations to the following students for being accepted into JanFest, an annual honor band hosted by the University of Georgia. Selection was based on teacher recommendation and instrumentation needs. These students will submit a video audition band and chair placement and participate in an honor band weekend at the University of Georgia from January 16-18. We are excited about these students representing our school in this prestigious event!

Students participating in this event received an email today with more details. If your child has not shared this information with you yet, please ask them for it.

Winter Guard Competition • January 18 • KMHS

The itinerary is still TBA, but our team will perform at Kennesaw Mountain HS on January 18, 2025 at 2:45PM. Tickets are $12.00 and can be purchased at the door. Come out and support our Winterguard!

MLK Parade • January 20, 2025

Auburn University Honor Band • February 27 – March 1

We also have 1 student representing us in the 2025 Auburn University Honor Band! He discovered the opportunity, asked for a recommendation, submitted his application, and was selected through a highly competitive process. Congratulations Hunter Moore! We know that you will represent Carrollton with pride!
