Busy Week Ahead… Senior Night, Last Competition and We Keep Going!

We hope you enjoyed the break this past weekend, but this upcoming weekend we get back into the swing of it, home football game vs. Paulding County this Friday night and our last competition this Saturday night. All of our student’s hard work will culminate this weekend at our final competition of the year.

      • Students will need to provide their own transportation to and from American Pie. Parents are more than welcome to join the fun. Students and parents will be responsible for ordering and paying for their own orders.

Help Needed For Competition on Saturday

Our last contest is this Saturday at Haralson County High School. We will need a number of people to help move the backdrops, wagons and also help the front ensemble so please consider signing up to help. We ask that you please consider signing up to assist with the props as well as other areas that need assistance with carrying equipment to and from the field. Our students have put in a tremendous amount of effort into making this show the best it can be. You can be a part of helping them finish strong, by volunteering to push props and other equipment. As with the previous competition, we will need to determine the total number of passes we are getting from Haralson County and then we will need to purchase additional passes since most bands host competitions as fundraisers. We will let you know how much each volunteer and chaperone will need to pay either late Friday or early Saturday morning. Since the admission price for the competition is $8, you can expect to pay less than $8.

All-In-One Final Push! PLEASE READ

If you have not sold your 30 items or made a minimum donation of $150 please turn in this by this TUESDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2019. It is imperative that we all participate in this fundraiser to allow the booster club to operate for our students (band camp meals, away game meals, etc). Because this fundraiser and our BBQ has traditionally been successful, it has allowed us to keep our band fees minimal. Thank you so much for your continued support because we need you!!

HEALTH CLASS

Students participating in the health class should be completed with the eADAP course from the GA Department of Drivers Services. Please double check with your child to verify that they have completed that course and submitted a certificate to me either in person or a PDF via email. This is the most important aspect of the class as it qualifies our students to apply for their drivers license. Once they have finished the eADAP course online, then they complete the 9 Unit exams via Google Classroom and they are done. Due dates are listed in Classroom to allow students to complete the class before their semester becomes too hectic. I will be lenient with the due dates so long as all coursework is completed and turned in by the Thanksgiving Break. Thank you for your assistance in keeping your child on track.

Competition is a GO!!!

Important Schedule Updates – Please Read!

We have made the decision to attend the rescheduled contest at Haralson County High School on November 2.   With this decision, we need to make some changes to our schedule for both this week and next week. One important thing to note, is that the Pasta-palooza that was scheduled for Monday, October 28 has been cancelled, Mr. Carr is unsure about rescheduling at this point because we will have the Veteran’s concert on November 11 and then another concert in December.  This cancellation will allow our students more time to focus on the contest on November 2. Additional practices that have not been on the calendar, have been added. Charms has been updated to reflect these changes, so if you sync your calendar with Charms, the schedule updates will automatically occur.

We appreciate your patience and support with these adjustments to better serve our students.

Remind Notifications

We have been able to determine a way to be able to use Remind again for notifications to both our parents and students which will not be affected by the 150 user cap recently implemented by Remind.  So here is how you can sign up to receive notifications from Remind.

For Band Parents, you can sign up for the graduating class of your student.  So if your child will graduate in 2021, you will sign up for the 2021 class. Now, if you have more than one student in the band, please sign up with the latest graduating class.  If you have a student graduating in 2021 and 2023, please sign up for the 2023 class.

Trojans 8-0! Competition Nov. 2?

Trojans Win! Contest TBD!

While the weekend did not end the way we were hoping, we did get a chance to cheer on our Trojans on to a crucial region victory over Kell High School. Our students performed with spirit and energy for the entire game providing an electric atmosphere for the game. It was such a fun game! Saturday was a washout and left us a little disappointed, but we are looking to see if we will attend the rescheduled contest on November 2. Mr. Carr is meeting with the seniors tomorrow morning at 7:45 am to receive direct feedback from them since the rescheduling will affect the rehearsal and performance schedule as well. A decision will be made very soon – if you haven’t let Mr. Carr know of any conflicts on Nov. 2 at this point, please do so this evening (christopher.carr@carrolltoncityschools.net).

Concert Attire Fittings

As marching season starts to wind down, that means we will move into concert season.  This means that your student may need to be fitted for their concert attire. Freshman students will need to be fitted.  Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors can be fitted as well if you feel it is necessary. The fittings will occur on Monday and Tuesday of next week.

  • Girls will be fitted on Monday, October 21 at 6PM in the Band Room
  • Boys will be fitted on Tuesday, October 22 at 6PM in the Band Room

We have been informed that the cost for the concert attire will be higher than in years past, but we do not have the specific costs yet.  We will inform you once we have the cost.


Pasta-palooza – Next Monday Night (10/28/19)

Next Monday night, October 28, 2019, from 6 – 8PM, our Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble and Chamber Music students will be performing in the CHS cafeteria. As a part of this concert, we would like to have parents sign up to bring their favorite pasta dish, desserts and drinks to this concert. You can sign up to bring something by clicking here (if all items have been signed up for, please bring whatever item you like). We look forward to this event as to allow our students to show all of their hard work that they have been doing outside of the marching show. Also, this is a great evening for us, as a band family, to come together and enjoy hearing our students perform and enjoy some food and fellowship. Now here are some details for this evening.

When looking to bring desserts, please bring desserts that do not need to be cut or sliced such as cookies, pre-cut brownies, etc. When signing up for drinks, please bring 2 2-liters or 2 1-gallon drinks. The boosters will be providing the cups, plates and plasticware for the evening. The cost for the event is $10 per person or $30 per family.

The Band Shoppe will be set up at this event, so you will be able to purchase a show shirt, one of the new “I’m With The Band” shirts and you can even go ahead and order any of our spirit items that your student might want for the holidays.


All-In-One Turn In!

We had several people asking about if there is still time to turn in their All-In-One packets. The answer is “YES!” However, we need you to turn them in on Monday so that we can place our order with our fruit and meat vendors.

No Contest Today Due to Weather

Competition – Weather Update

Good morning!

Haralson County has decided not to host their contest today due to the weather.  I know this was our last scheduled competition of the year and is not the best of news, but the decision was made with the safety of our children involved and I appreciate them communicating early enough this morning that we could inform you before reporting to the school.  They offered a reschedule date of November 2, but I am concerned that at this point many of our families have other commitments.  A decision of our participation on November 2 has not yet been decided, please e-mail me now if your child cannot participate on November 2.

Seniors, I would like to meet with you all in the band room on Monday morning at 7:45AM to discuss this with you in more detail before making a final decision of our participation on November 2.  I know that this is your last competition and I want to be sure that we honor you by listening to your concerns.  If we decide to compete, we will adjust our rehearsal and performance calendar through the end of our competitive season so that we continue to be prepared to have the best performance of our season.
