Hollywood

Also, we can share that the band has been OFFICIALLY INVITED by the Hollywood Christmas Parade Committee!  I had faith and confidence that it would happen, but I know that some may have been hesitant to sign-up until receiving this official confirmation!

This is an important step in our band program’s journey as we begin applying to the larger parades like the Rose Bowl Parade, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the London New Year’s Day Parade.  It is important that we perform well in this parade with as many students as possible to make sure that we are representing our program appropriately.

Here is the schedule for this week:

  • Monday: Symphonic Band rehearsal 3:30PM – 5:00PM
    • Winter Guard rehearsal 4:00PM – 9:00PM
  • Tuesday: Wind Ensemble rehearsal from 3:30PM – 6:00PM
  • Wednesday: Tri-M Music Honor Society interest meeting 3:30PM – 4:00PM
  • Thursday: Winter Guard rehearsal 4:00PM – 9:00PM
    • Kiwanis Showcase Applications are due.  See Mr. Carr for more details.
  • Friday: Basketball game vs East Paulding HS
    • Marching band students are encouraged to participate – we will be performing stands tunes.  Please wear blue jeans and a CHS band shirt.
      • Report at 5:00PM to the Band Room
      • We should be finished around 9:00PM
      • Bring money for concessions but we will also feed the students pizza for dinner
  • Saturday: Winter Guard competition at Alpharetta HS

Winter Guard does it again!

Congratulations to our Winter Guard under the direction of Corey Hawkins and Emma Turner, who performed at Kennesaw Mountain HS on Saturday.  They placed first, but due to an unfinished prop their score was reduced putting them in third.  Many contests waive the penalties for the first few weeks, but we learned from it this time.  Mr. Hawkins has already made arrangements to fix the prop tomorrow.  Onward and upward! So proud of our band program for continuing to set the bar high! Congratulations, ladies!

West Georgia Band Community Join Forces for GMEA Performance

Congratulations to the University of West Georgia Wind Ensemble and their directors Dr. Josh Byrd and Dr. Cale Self for their inspiring performance at this year’s Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference in Athens, GA.  In an effort to showcase the West Georgia area’s students he invited four trumpets from Carrollton and four trumpets from Central to accompany the Wind Ensemble on their performance.  The antiphonal trumpets added that next level of WOW to an already exciting program.  The four high school students are pictured above: Central’s Connor Abernathy, Riley Mitchell, Hannah Puckett, Katie Thompson, and Carrollton’s Ryan Schumann, Matthew Harris, Melissa Lanier, and Lainey Driver.  Before the concert, Temple High School’s flute choir (Chuck Jindrich, director and Carrollton Band Dad) conducted by Elisa Lyle (we are lucky to have her work with our students too!) performed in the lobby.  It was a great testament to the band programs here in West Georgia!  Proud that we could play a part! Go West!

GSU in Concert NEXT WEEK! Thursday, February 8th!

Happy Sunday!  I hope you are having a fantastic weekend and staying warm!

Just to recap, the trip will be November 23-27, 2018. The cost of the trip is not completely final because airfare prices have not been released by airlines. We feel a realistic estimate is $1750 and a final number will be made available as soon as possible.

We do have one change to the information provided, ALL trip deposits will be collected by the Band Boosters. We are working to collect your credit card payments through revtrak, cash and checks can be turned in at the band room. Please remember to put your payment in an envelope with the names of those the deposit is for and the amount enclosed!  Deposits are due January 26th!

2018 Begins With Success!

Happy New Year everyone and thank you to all of the students who participated in the Chick-fil-a Peach Bowl with us on January 1, 2018.  The temperatures were excessively cold, but our students persevered and gave an outstanding performance during the parade and the pre-game.

All-State auditions took place this past Saturday at Houston County High School in Warner Robins, Georgia.  Students had to make it past the first round of auditions, which were in December, to be invited to participate in this final round.  Please help us congratulate the following students for representing our Trojan Band at this audition:

  • Taylor Berry, trombone
  • Ben Bradley, trumpet
  • Lainey Driver, trumpet
  • Oscar Hernandez, euphonium
  • Katie Hoberg, tenor saxophone
  • Rachel Ivester, flute
  • Kayla McGuinn, percussion
  • Kelley Ozier, euphonium
  • Kendall Ozier, flute
  • Ryan Schumann, trumpet
  • Andrew Stagliano, baritone saxophone
  • Thomas Svegl, trombone
  • Jesse Todd, flute
  • Christian Williamson, trombone

The students competed against the other 2000 students who were attendance.  Carrollton High School had three names listed on the list for All-State this year!  Please help us to congratulate Kendall Ozier and Taylor Berry for making the band and Kelley Ozier for being listed as a first alternate!  Making All-State is a very difficult task and we are very proud to be represented by these students!  Congratulations!!

For more information regarding the Hollywood Christmas Parade Trip for November, please attend our meeting on Tuesday at 6:00PM. Cost, proposed itinerary, and payment options will all be discussed.  We are very excited about this opportunity for our children!  It will be a trip that your child will remember forever.  We look forward to seeing you Tuesday, January 9th at 6 PM in the Don Hall Band Room.

    • $50 deposit for trip is due Friday, January 26th. This deposit will secure your spot on the trip.
    • If you are unable to attend the meeting, we will post a link to a recording of it on YouTube.

Building for Our Future – A message from our Superintendent

Dear Trojan Community,
As you may know, earlier this school year we embarked on a mission to raise private funds for an innovative multi-activity center on our campus.  After extensive research, we found that now is the opportune time to pursue this endeavor with the current construction of our new high school.  The purpose of this facility would be to provide a large, enclosed, universal space for students that can be used for current and future class offerings as well as a practice space for all students and extracurricular activities. This type of facility will also provide an opportunity to further collaborate with our community on regional and state events that provide a significant economic impact on our area. We are extremely grateful for the response we’ve received to date. Having raised or received commitments for over 60% of the funds needed, we are calling on our Trojan Nation to help us achieve our goal. Please click on the image below to learn more about this exciting opportunity for our school system and how you can contribute.  Should you have any questions or would like to learn more about donating to this project, please contact the Carrollton City Schools Education Foundation (ccsedfoundation@carrolltoncityschools.net). Thank you for your consideration as we continue to make Carrollton City Schools a premier destination school district.
Go Trojans!
Dr. Mark Albertus
Superintendent
