Month: June 2015

Marching Band Activities This Week

This-Weeks-activitesOur first official activities of the 2015-2016 season begin this week in preparation for our performance in the Carrollton July 4th Parade. We will be holding two practices that all band members, including rising 9th graders, will be expected to participate in. Practices are Wednesday, July 1, from 3pm-6pm and Friday, July 3, from 3pm-6pm. Details about our performance on Saturday, i.e. dress, report time, etc., will be provided to the students at practice, as well as posted on our social media channels later in the week.

In preparation for this week’s activities and as a lead up to our band camps at the end of the month, we highly encourage students to begin drinking lots of water to ensure proper hydration.

It is going to be a banner year for the Trojan Band Program and we look forward to seeing everyone this week. We also encourage the Trojan Nation to come out in force and support us in the parade.

Please visit our Calendar often to stay informed of all upcoming activities.

Don’t Miss Your Chance To Show Your Support

LOC_2clr-b-01We are truly grateful for the overwhelming support we have received so far in regards to our new marching band competition, Legacy of Champions. It seems our community of supporters are just as excited about showcasing our premier program and community as we are. As we continue to make preparation for the event, we wanted to make sure that everyone was aware of  the sponsorship/advertising opportunities available to businesses, organizations, civic groups, alumni and proud parents, especially of those of senior band students, who want to take their support to the next level.

We have many different levels of sponsorships available to fit every budget, from our Legacy Sponsors that start at $500.00 to our Bronze Sponsors at $25.00. Each level of sponsorship comes with a range of special benefits, from free advertising to free tickets, to express our gratitude for your generosity and support. All sponsors will also be included in our printed program that will be available the day of the event. To see a complete list of sponsorship levels and respective benefits, check out our: 2015 Sponsorship Opportunities Sheet.  If you are interested in sponsoring our event at any level or have questions about a sponsorship or other opportunities, please contact us at:

Color Guard Update – Welcome Mr. John Gray

At the end of the recent school year Mrs. Greene, our color guard instructor, approached me with some wonderful news.  Her husband Tim had received a band directing job!  The unfortunate part of the news was that the new position was in Texas.  When I asked her how she was going to handle the commute from Texas to Georgia on a daily basis to continue teaching our guard, she laughed and said that she wished that were possible.  As sad as I am that we have to say goodbye to Mrs. Greene, I am extremely happy for the blessings that God continues to provide for her and her family.  Congratulations to the Greene family on Tim’s new position at Cypress Ranch High School.  They are very blessed to have such a talented family join their community.

Mr. John GrayBack home, as we continue to prepare for the coming year, we too are blessed with the opportunity to announce a new staff member, Color Guard Instructor, Mr. John Gray. After having the opportunity to spend some time with Mr. Gray, receiving numerous high recommendations, and an opportunity to watch him teach our students, I am proud to welcome Mr. Gray to the Carrollton High School Band Program. Mr. Gray has actually taught color guard for the Trojans in the late ’80s and then returned with Mr. Don Hall for the 2007 school year.  He has also taught at many other high schools throughout his career, including the stellar programs at Lassiter High School and Northgate High School.  He has marched with the Spirit of Atlanta and the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps and just last year had the opportunity to perform with the Madison Scouts alumni corps in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York.  Mr. Gray also directs and choreographs for the JSU Syndicate, which is an alumni guard for the Jacksonville State University Marching Southerners.

Please join us in welcoming Mr. Gray back to the Carrollton Trojan Band family!

Carrollton High School Band Director

New Band Uniforms!?

With plans continuing for what should be a memorable 2015-2016 band year, the Carrollton Trojan Marching Band staff and boosters are excited to announce that the uniforms featured in the image within this post are NOT our new uniforms. In fact, we don’t even need new uniforms right now, what we need are volunteers to help us take care of the great uniforms we have… we need some Trojan Lady B.U.G.s (Band Uniform Guardians)!

If we are good stewards of our current uniforms they will last as long as we need them to, which helps us keep costs down and use funds for other, more imperative needs. So with that said we still need several volunteers to commit to protecting, caring for and working with the band uniforms for the 2015-2016 school year. Duties would include but are not limited to: assisting with initial fitting and distributions, minor repairs, emergency spot cleaning/repairs, preparing for scheduled cleanings, pre-performance uniform checks, being present at both home & away performances, including competitions to ensure the band looks its best. If we can get enough volunteers to sign-up there can be a rotation so that no one person is expected to be at every performance.

So please consider signing up for this often overlooked but very rewarding volunteer opportunity. You can sign-up below. (If you are viewing by email, please visit this post on our website to see the sign-up area)
